An award-winning chef in the international culinary competing arena, Chef Yen is currently the Culinary Advisor with Unilever Food Solutions, South East Asia where he specialises in culinary training, research and development, applications and customer development for the food service and food manufacturing consumer goods industries.
Chef Yen’s training from the Singapore Hotel Tourism and Educational Centre (SHATEC) and continuing education programs by the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) and Temasek Poly has given him a great foundation to kick start his culinary career which spanned across various sectors including the former Westin Stamford and Westin Plaza (Now Swissôtel the Stamford and Fairmont Singapore) and Givaudan – the world’s leading flavours and fragrances multi-national company.
His talent had not gone unnoticed as he was invited to cook for many local and foreign dignitaries throughout his career which include the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew and his wife Mdm Kwa Geok Choo, Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, Former President of the United States, Mr Obama, President of China, Mr Hu Jin Tao and many other world leaders.
As a keen culinary competition enthusiast, Chef Yen has established a distinguish record of achievements in both the local and international culinary competition arenas, receiving outstanding recognition as an individual competitor and achieving culinary excellence with the Singapore National Culinary Team in the capacities of member, team captain and mentor across the years. As mentor Chef Yen has led Singapore’s National Culinary Team to become overall champion of 32 countries and world champion for patisserie in the IKA Culinary Olympics held in Erfurt, Germany. He is also currently a WACS (A) certified culinary judge and has judged for many competitions including the Hong Kong International Culinary Classics.
