The inaugural Project Happy Feet Slipper Race is listed in the 27 October 2011 issue of TODAY, a newspaper by MediaCorp. The insertion on page T15 reads:

Project Happy Feet Slipper Race 2011
This is Singapore’s first-ever walking race in slippers to support underprivileged
school children in Singapore, Cambodia and Vietnam. The race is inspired by the many school children in countries who walk more than 3km either barefooted or in slippers to their schools. The race aims to raise S$150,000.
