The Little Engine That Could

Today was a good day for Project Happy Feet. Not only did we realise that we might (fingers crossed) have reached our initial donation target of $30,000, we also finally crossed the 1000 fans mark on our Facebook Fan Page, and are now proud owners of the shiny url: www.facebook.com/projecthappyfeet

Jokes aside, I titled the post as such because the story of Project Happy Feet really reminds me of the story of The Little Engine That Could. I first read that story when one of my campers back in CA pulled out the book from his bag and demanded that I read to him before lights out – of course I complied. The story of The Little Engine That Could that teaches children the value of optimism and hard work. The engine train was tasked to pull a long train over the mountain when all the larger engines had refused, not shivering in the face of a tall order, the little engine completed the task, with its motto ‘I think I can’.

Project Happy Feet is not a big engine nor were we tasked to pull any train, but we saw a long train and we thought, if we don’t pull it, who will? No offense to The Little Engine, but PHF’s motto is not ‘We think we can’, but ‘With your support, we know we can!’

To the 1,006 fans (as of 11:12pm, 6 Dec 2009) on the Project Happy Feet Facebook Fan Page, we thank you – your actions told us that you believed in us. We know that as we leave for Hanoi this Tuesday, we bring along 1,006 (and counting) blessings with us, that means the world to us.

As we pack our bags and leave for Hanoi, we are happy that we did all we can this year. We’re excited to go and we’re excited to come back with stories to tell of how your donations have helped change lives. We’re excited to go to Hanoi and tell the children, this year, Christmas came a tad early. :)

To everyone who has given in someway or another to Project Happy Feet (I am sure you’ve heard this a million times), thank you for fueling The Little Engine That Could.
