The Fifth Day

Its our fifth day here in Cambodia and as it stands, the group’s feelings are bittersweet.

On one hand, we had a great day out (today was our free day), but on the other, it means that we’re another day closer to the end of our trip.

The day started with breakfast (same one everyday, but still enjoyable!) and then an elephant ride. Did you know that in Cambodia’s past, only royalty got to sit on elephants? Our 15USD ride included a tour guide, who narrated the history of Angkor Wat and Cambodia to us.

After dismounting the elephants, we went for lunch. We dined at a typical Cambodian restaurant which was great as usual. The group then headed to the land mine museum.

Afterwards, it was time to shop! We headed down to the market, where we split into our own small groups and scoured the area. In our two hours there, we managed to get some great deals (thanks to our bargaining skills). Amazingly, not one shop keeper lost their cool with us, despite our incessant bargaining – not something you see everyday in Singapore.

Once we had shopped to our wallets’ content (or misery, rather), it was time for our hot air balloon ride! We rose 200 metres above ground and were offered a stunning view of Siem Reap. Sadly, the ride only lasted 10 minutes or so.

We proceeded to have a quick dinner (Cambodian cuisine again) before heading back to the market for another round of shopping!

Finally it was time to head back to the hotel, where we began packing for tomorrow’s departure and writing this blog post.

All this student can say is, WE ARE ALL SO GOING TO MISS CAMBODIA!
