The Slipper Race may be over, but there’s still work to be done

We may have successfully held the Slipper Race on 13 November 2011, but there’s still lots of follow-ups.

Firstly, we’ve officially ended the fund-raising period when our foreign fund-raising permit ends on 30 November 2011. What this means is we will not be collecting anymore donations as part of the Slipper Race. We are no longer soliciting for donations from members of the public. You would have noticed that we have taken down out the “Donate” button on the official Slipper Race website.

That being said, if you are a friend of ours, you can still support us by donating to our cause, but we won’t be sending out mailers or flyers to people we don’t know to ask for funds. You can also still write us a cheque to make a gift this Christmas. Write to deborah@projecthappyfeet.org to find out how.

We’ve also held our internal debrief so we can learn from our experience to make the next Slipper Race an even better one. About 18 members of the core planning team spent an evening going through every aspect of the event. We then headed to a restaurant for a thank-you meal (the meal was sponsored by Deborah, Terence and Grace).

At this point, if you have any comments or suggestions about the event, we would love to hear from you! Please do drop a mail to grace@projecthappyfeet.org

Moving forward, we are now tabulating all the collections and ensuring sponsorship dollars are in, and that the finances are in order. We would then work with an independent auditor to go through the books to make sure all dollars and cents are properly accounted for. Then we would need to declare the amount raised and disbursed them to our beneficiaries (Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund, Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation and This Life Cambodia). We hope to get all these sorted out as soon as possible, and would certainly be documenting this along the way.

Meanwhile, we are already beginning talks with potential sponsors for next year’s Slipper Race, and are also putting word out to people who are thinking of lending a hand to step forward. If you are keen to support next year’s Slipper Race, please do take a moment to fill out the online volunteer form. The form allows us to understand what you hope to do for the Slipper Race, and with that information, we will contact you if something meaningful comes up for you to volunteer. If you have corporate organisations you think can help us in our work, we would love to hear from you too. Please email terence@projecthappyfeet.org so we can explore collaborations.

So for now, do check our pages every now and then for further updates. Just because don’t have a habit of spamming people’s mailboxes (and hence, we don’t email very often), it doesn’t mean we don’t want to stay in touch with you!
