How did I become a YEP leader?

My name is Max Pang Wen Xiang. This is my first time leading a Youth Expedition Project (YEP) trip. We are going to Living Hope Children’s Home (LHCH) located in Bangalore, India in December 2013.

In the beginning I wasn’t sure. I remember looking through the activities on my university’s online platform and chanced upon a post recruiting leaders to take part in Inspiring India 2013. Maybe it was the curiosity of exploring India (different culture and food) or the sense of empathy towards the people (from articles of slums and beggars) – there was a voice at the back of my head telling me to grab this opportunity.

I applied for the position and went for the interview in which I met my co-leader, Jacqueline Ho. Initially, I thought the role of a leader is to get instructions from the organizers and manage a few people to come up with activities for the trip. However, during the interview, I found out that the leader IS the organizer. Even though I had some apprehensions, I told myself that if I never try I will never know. Fortunately I was selected and so I became a fresh YEP leader.
