PHF Volunteer Stefanie Ang presenting a mock-cheque to Billy Gorter of This Life Cambodia
Siem Reap, 27 March 2012 – Project Happy Feet presented a cheque of SGD10,670.07 to This Life Cambodia while visiting the non-profit organisation in Siem Reap.
The cheque was presented by Stefanie Ang, who is leading the inaugural Project Happy Feet Volunteer Leadership Experience team to Cambodia, to Billy Gorter, the director and founder of This Life Cambodia.
The amount of SGD10,670.07 was raised through the first-ever Project Happy Feet Slipper Race held in Singapore on 4 November 2011. The event raised in excess of SGD100,000, 80% of which was donated to Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund to be disbursed to support needy students in Singapore. The other 10% of the total funds raised was donated to Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The amount donated to This Life Cambodia would be used to support the Lower Secondary School Programme at Chub Ta Trav Lower Secondary School as part of the developmental work carried out by This Life Cambodia and the local community, and supported by the local government.
“Thank you Project Happy Feet for your support,” says Billy, who founded the organisation in 2007 with the aim of empowering the local community to address their own needs, and support them in making positive changes that are sustainable. “We look forward to doing more together with you.”
