SINGAPORE: More than 1,800 participants put their best slippers forward on Sunday morning to race for a good cause.
Individuals, families and corporate groups took part in Singapore’s first ever Slipper Race for charity.
The race was flagged off by Singapore’s Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Defence and National Development, Dr Maliki Osman who joined the three-kilometre walk at East Coast Park.
The Slipper Race raised about S$83,000 for the education of underprivileged children in Singapore, Cambodia and Vietnam.
The idea to walk in slippers was inspired by the sight of many students living in rural areas in Cambodia and Vietnam who have to walk three to five kilometres each day just to go to school, often barefooted.
