Its Day Three of our trip and needless to say we are still eager to reach out to more kids here. Come to think of it, we’ve been really fortunate to be able to come on the trip, much less experience life in Cambodia.
The day began with a trip to the church to pack clothing and stationary we were going to hand out to the kids of Taom. The ride to the village was long and bumpy, with livestock everywhere! Our driver certainly had to be careful.
Upon arrival at Taom, we were briefed and subsequently split up into two groups: boys and girls. The girls helped cook rice soup for the children while the boys engaged in some manual labour by transporting wooden planks that were going to be used in our planned construction of a village library. Luckily for the boys, the girls came over and helped with the planks once they had finished cooking.
Before long, we headed to the village church where kids sang for us. We reciprocated in kind and sang to them too. After the singing session, they children had their lunch of rice soup.
After we finished our own lunches, we got down to giving out the clothing and stationary. All of the children were excited and you could see the joy in their eyes upon receiving an item.
When we were done, it was time to head back to the hostel. Unsurprisingly, all that activity had us worn out and so we slept throughout the journey. Once back, the boys took a dip in the resident swimming pool with Mr Dominic Tan and Dave, our guide.
The group then headed out for dinner at a Cambodian buffet restaurant, which even provided live entertainers!
With dinner complete, we headed back to the hostel for a debrief, and then an early night, in preparation for tomorrow’s village visit.
