The sixth day of our CIP trip saw us waking up at 5.30am (Singapore Time) and heading off for the airport. We left the hostel, our place of rest and recreation for the past six days, with dragged feet and heavy hearts. It seemed only yesterday that we first arrived there, and despite the hostel’s run-down facade, it provided numerous amenities such as a swimming pool, pool table, and Internet service.
En route to the airport, the roads were dark – they do not have street lights – except for the passing lights from buildings or homes. Upon checking in for our flight, we had our breakfast, and headed into customs. When it was finally time to board the plane, the group’s mood was a sombre one.
After a brief transit at Phnom Penh, we were finally heading home. Despite the immense relief we felt at being back in Singapore, Cambodia was still on our minds – its weather, scenery, and most of all, the people, being fond memories.
All in all, our six day adventure in Cambodia was a wonderfully enriching learning experience for the 22 of us. We got to experience a lifestyle that not many Singaporeans can, and have learnt to appreciate what we have back home especially our education. The team also bonded greatly, with every meal, bus ride, and activity strengthening our ties with one another.
Safe to say, none of us will be forgetting any part of this trip any time soon.
A personal shout out from this blogger: I just want to say that everyone did a wonderful job! There was a great positive attitude that endured no matter how tired we were. Everyone stayed cheerful, motivated, and most importantly, gave 100% in helping the people we met in Cambodia. All of you deserve a round of applause!
