Post image for A Scoop of Fairness at Ben & Jerry’s ChunkFest!Put thousands of scoops of ice cream and 32 extraordin-dairy (pardon the pun) flavours of ice-cream and you end up with Singapore’s biggest ice-cream festival, Ben & Jerry’s Chunkfest! Back at the Promontory @ Marina Bay and into its fourth year, ChunkFest brings family and friends together to celebrate life through peace, love and ice-cream! With social causes and fairness as a highlight of this year’s festival, Ben & Jerry’scelebrates the love for ice-cream that no one else can.

Globally, Ben & Jerry’s has always believed in engaging the community and doing good for others.  A firm believer that business has a responsibility to give back to the community, Ben & Jerry’s is committed to sourcing for Fair Trade-certified ingredients whenever they are available. Started with the coffee flavours back in 2005, Ben & Jerry’s feels that the right way is to pay everyone fairly; from the suppliers of ingredients to the Flavour Gurus (who are the creative minds and sometimes tongues of the sometimes eccentric but delicious flavours we have in our scoop shops today) This transition to steer the entire company into using Fair Trade ingredients, is the most intensive product overhaul that the company has ever undertaken and Ben & Jerry’s is proud to be the first ice-cream company to do so! Down from the vanilla beans, coffee beans and even cocoa, Fair Trade can help farmers earn the means to stay on their land, put food on their table, and keep their children in school. And Fair Trade certification signifies responsible stewardship of the land through environmentally sound farming techniques. Now, aint that one for global causes?

A first for ChunkFest, Ben & Jerry’s ties up with several local non-governmental organisations, social enterprises and members of the public to bring in different perspectives of Fairness. In partnership for this year’s festival, Ben & Jerry’s has collaborated with the Kranji Countryside Association, Project Happy Feet, the Animal Lovers League and the Action for Singapore Dogs Society. From supporting and promoting local agriculture, ecotourism, to empowering the lives of impoverished children in developing countries through education; Fairness can play a part in our everyday lives and this year’s ChunkFest goes out to prove just that. With everyone’s support, Ben & Jerry’s helps to do its part to spread positive social messages and support their cause.

Now, with all the eco-talk aside, what is an ice-cream festival without the best of Ben & Jerry’s? For ChunkFest, 11 exclusive flavours were specially flown over from the United States for this special day for the fans here in Singapore! We pick out our favourite flavours that hit the right note:

Late Night Snack: A flavour in tribute to Jimmy Fallon and his Late Night show, with Fair Trade Certified vanilla ice cream, fudge covered potato chip clusters & a salty caramel swirl. Definitely one for those mid-night cravings for something sweet or salty!

Bonnaroo Buzz: Created to celebrate Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, its the marraige of light coffee & malt ice cream with decadent whiskey caramel swirls & english toffee chunks that will have you hooked. Perfect for those with a lower tolerance of caffeine!

Americone Dream: Fair Trade vanilla ice cream with fudge covered waffle cone pieces and a sticky caramel swirl, Americone Dream is yet another celebrity collaboration but with late night show host Steven Colbert. It makes you feel good eating it because while crunching on the delicious waffle cone pieces, Colbert is donating the proceeds from the sale of AmeriCone Dream to charity through The Stephen Colbert AmeriCone Dream Fund. Now that is food for the heart!

With other moo-licious flavours such as Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl and Butter Pecan available, the collasal chunks and rich whorls of ice-cream made more that just kids happy. We would dare say that most of the happy faces came from the slightly older children (hint) who had more than two scoops each! Delivering a tastebud-boggling odyssey in every bite, it was perfect for the day out in the warm sunshine. Even closer to the evening when the ice-cream was starting to sell out, there were still queues that seem to keep the hardworking scoopies busy!

ChunkFest is nothing without some entertainment andmoo-sic! The festival saw six local bands battling in song and music all through the afternoon and evening to win for a spot on the stage to open for 2012′s ‘Sundae on the Common’, which is a massive annual Ben & Jerry’s party in the United Kingdom. A immense honour to open for other international bands, the votes could be cast by anyone who went for the event and online voting ended on the 26th October. If you want to know which band you sent to London, check out the ChunkFest page!

A scoop of ice cream, smiles on the faces and games to play, ChunkFest was a blast and everyone we know enjoyed themselves. Now the appropriate question would be; how will Ben & Jerry’s  top this year’s ChunkFest in 2012?
