LIBRARY FOR TAOM
A group of volunteers comprising students from Anglo Chinese School (Independent) and parents formed Project BLISS (Building Libraries In Siem Reap Student Group), raised USD12,668.85 through sale of cookies they baked, PHF postcards, and t-shirts they designed and printed – all to build a library in the Village of Taom, Siem Reap, from 1 – 6 Dec 09.

About the Village of Taom
The Village of Taom is situated about 75km off the city centre of Siem Reap. In 2006, an old abandoned church was found by the villagers living around the area and was referred to the Catholic Church of Siem Reap who has since restored the infrastructure to be used as a learning centre for the villagers who live around the area.
With the village being situated about 2 hours’ drive away from the city centre, children in the village hardly have access to learning and education. The learning centre thus serves as a crucial and central point where these children are provided nutrition (through its rice soup programme), basic education and basic hygiene lessons. Youth too are provided with education and given platforms to lead and teach their younger counterparts.
Run by local volunteers, the learning centre currently sees a need to provide a library for the 300 over children of Taom. As the village is fairly inaccessible, the library will provide exposure and increase accessibility to learning.
