Grace Goh (Left) and Fei Ying are the first interns of Project Happy Feet
Whilst many other coursemates are now interning with a basic salary, Grace Goh and Fei Ying have decided to forgo pay to make a difference at Project Happy Feet.
The two students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Diploma in Business and Social Enterprise were inspired by the work of Project Happy Feet and wanted to join the not-for-profit to make a difference while learning more about the social enterprise and not-for-profit industry.
Project Happy Feet is run entirely by volunteers and has no funds to pay for manpower. When it does fund-raising, 100% of the funds raised are used to support education and training of underprivileged children and youths. Other operational expenditure such as auditing fees are covered by corporate sponsorships or sale of merchandise.
The fact that there was no pay did not deter the two young ladies from applying to be interns.
In fact, they were so excited to get into action their engagement with Project Happy Feet started even before their official internship on 19 March 2012. They are both enrolled as participants of Project Happy Feet’s Volunteer Leadership Experience which kicked-off on 18 February 2012.
For their internship, Grace and Fei Ying will be studying the model of Project Happyfeet Feet, gaining first-hand experience in the strategic planning and operations of the organisation. They would also take up leadership position in one of two key signature programmes – Chefs for a Cause and Project Happy Feet Slipper Race.
Project Happy Feet appreciates the support of Ngee Ann Polytechnic and the two dedication and energy of the two new members of the PHF team.
